Join the Hluboká Fishery for an Exciting Fishing Adventure! Explore the Waters of Bezdrev, Blatec, Voblánov, and Vlhlavský – Your Escape from Boredom Awaits!

This year’s fishing season at Hluboká Fishery is set to open on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Voblánov pond (also known as Oblanov) located close to Novosedel. This pond covers an area of 61 hectares. It is fished only once every two years and is home to species like carp, pike, and zander. A significant highlight will be the fishing event at Bezdrev pond, which spans 424 hectares and holds the title of the second largest pond in Bohemia! This fishing event is scheduled for the days October 26 – 29, 2025. On the dam of the pond, a fishing festival will take place on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. The festival will feature a market, performances by the Patrola band and the Nightingale Choir from Hluboká. Additionally, there will be a culinary show led by chef Vladimír Tůma that will showcase tasty fish dishes. Beyond the festival at the dam, there will be a fish specialties week from October 27 to November 2, 2025, at restaurants in Hluboká. Participating restaurants include Hubert, Hotel Podhrad, Solidní šance, Hotel Záviš z Falkenštejna, Wellness Hotel Diamant, Restaurant Lovecká chata, and Restaurant V Podzámčí. On Friday, October 31, 2025, from 10 am to 3 pm, there will be a special Fishing Day held at the National Agricultural Museum Ohrada.
The upcoming ponds to be fished on Thursday are November 6, 2025 at Pond Blatec Dívčice and on Tuesday November 18, 2025 at Pond Vlhavsky.
One of the most thrilling moments occurs in the morning, as the view of fishermen at work from the dam is particularly captivating. Preparations for fishing start much earlier, sometimes ranging from a day to a month before the actual event, through a process called tuning. The fisherman prepares the pond for fishing, adjusting various elements to make it ready. The fish are gradually brought into the assigned fishing area. A day before the fishing day, the fishermen prepare the equipment, bringing in tubs, pots, loaders, and other necessary items. Early in the morning, the opening ceremony begins in line with the age-old fishing tradition, by transferring the fishing rights to the group’s leader.
Fishermen then set up a net known as a seine… which signals the start of the fishing process. The seine is pulled by footmen and gamekeepers using a rope tied to its handle, helping to gather the fish in the designated fishing area. If the number of fish is satisfactory, the haul is stopped, and the fish are ensnared in the seine. Once this is done, the seine is opened in front of a tank, releasing the catch (the seine is opened). Next, the fishermen release the noble species of fish like the predatory varieties. The process of removing fish from the seine (for large ponds, there is often a mechanical caster) to the sorting area begins, where fishermen manually sort the fish. The sorted fish are dropped onto a hanging basket which is connected to the mincer. Once 100 kilograms are gathered, the fish is transferred into a vertical loader. This process can take an entire day, while the fish remains in the seine. The loader then moves the fish into boxes on a truck, which will transport them directly to the pond or to a different pond. After a certain time in the pond, the fish will be ready for sale.
