Discover the Vibrant Autumn at Zoo Prague

zoo pragueCurrently, Zoo Prague is vibrant with the beautiful colors of October, and the activities planned are just as exciting. During the autumn holidays, guests can enjoy the much-loved pumpkin feast featuring nearly twenty different species of animals. Additionally, we are about to host one of the most enchanting events of the year – the sparkling lantern parade that will take place in the dimly lit garden on Sunday, October 19, 2025 to celebrate the Indian festival of lights, Diwali. There will also be a special surprise for visitors before the parade starts.

ZOO PRAGUEWe also encourage you to visit the zoo outside of these special events because, in autumn, a variety of species can be seen in the enclosures of Zoo Prague. This includes animals from subtropical and tropical areas, which, thanks to their long-term adaptation, are comfortable being outdoors even during the colder months.

Most of the animals remain quite active throughout the year; only a few, like gophers and marmots, hibernate and go underground during the winter.

Leaves for the monkeys, wolves love sleeping in the open

Zoo Prague understands in LeafThis season offers a very entertaining spectacle with the so-called monkey islands. The caretakers of primates use the fallen autumn leaves to provide exciting activities for the monkeys and gorillas. They hide pieces of fruit, vegetables, granola, and cereal in leaf piles, keeping the animals both entertained and well-fed. The primates jump into the leaves, play around in them, and compete for the tasty hidden food.

Some animals actually thrive in the cooler fall and winter weather. For instance, the red panda, which is considered an alpine mammal, tends to be more active when it is cold. Wolves, on the other hand, are some of the toughest creatures in Prague Zoo. Even during the coldest months, they prefer staying outside and only require a shallow den that they dig for sleeping, even when there’s snow on the ground.
