Don’t Miss Out: International Outdoor Film Festival Debuts This Saturday
International Outdoor Film Festival is a traveling film event that showcases several outdoor films in a competitive format. These films compete across four different categories: adventure and extreme sports film, mountain and mountaineering film, adventure water sports film, and travelogue film. In addition to the competition, there will also be screenings of non-competitive films. This year’s festival will kick off on 25 October 2025 at 8 pm on TV Noe.
We’re excited to see three films and two interviews with the creators of these films. One film, David Knebl’s Mulchatna River or 300 km of the Brown Man, tells the story of a Czech-Slovak paddling adventure during a ten-day journey down a wild river in Alaska.
The documentary Jaroslav Jindra X PYR 24 introduces us to one of the hardest races of its kind, combining paragliding and marathon running across the Pyrenees. Lastly, thanks to director Michal G álika, we journey to the Philippines. The documentary Hope for the King follows Czech experts who, alongside Filipino colleagues, are working to save the endangered monkey-eating eagle.
This year, the public can look forward to film screenings and other events in Brno at the Art Cinema, where the festival will be hosted on 27 October, 4 November, 10 November, and 27 November; as well as at the Kulturní dům in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, which will screen films from 20 to 23 November; in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí at the cultural center from 21 to 23 November; in Hradec Králové at the BioCentral cinema from 3 to 5 November; in Chvalkovice na Hané from 20 to 21 November; in Opava from 14 to 15 November; in the Ostrava Minikino from 6 to 8 November; in Řepiště on several dates including 30 October, 6 November, 13 November, 20 November, 23 November, 27 November, 30 November, and 5 December; and in Zlín at the Golden Apple Cinema from 3 to 5 November.
The winners of the festival will be announced on Saturday 13 December at 8:05 p.m. on TV Noe. Additionally, the festival will feature an outdoor traveling exhibition Hospitals at the End of the World, showcasing photographs of the Czech Hospital located in the Western Himalayas, established by Dina Štěrbová and mountaineer Vítězslav Dokoupil.
Films of the International Outdoor Film Festival 2025
This year’s festival will bring you thrilling tales from Africa, the Philippines, and the Taiga, among other places. The film Lekker Africa – Across Africa narrates the adventure of two Czech motorcyclists traveling from Cape Town to Kruger National Park. You’ll dive into the work of a Monegasque filmmaker who captures the essence of the Himba people and the wildlife of Namibia in Desert of the Mists. The Belgian documentary Winter Taiga reveals how Mongolian families raise their children alongside reindeer and manage through the harsh cold of the Taiga.
Your heart will race as you meet a daring biker in The One Who Celebrates Every Day. Kilian Bron also shares his unwavering passion for challenges, keeping you on the edge of your seat while he rides. Prepare yourself for the film Nothing to Hide. Flow Visions presents the story of another French skateboarding enthusiast who navigates the toughest road in Europe on his skateboard.
Water enthusiasts will also find plenty of thrilling films to enjoy. Kayaker David takes you on a journey along Alaska’s Mulchatna River in Mulchatna River or 300 km on the Water Through the Brown Man’s Country and in Galapagos Interaction, you will dive with sharks. Four explorers embark on an adventure into the icy waters of northern Greenland, aiming to conquer the untouched 1,200-meter northwest face of Drøneren. Watch for the film Odyssea Borealis.
As is customary, the festival will showcase some of the most popular films centered around mountains and mountaineering. With Slovak director P. Barabáš, you will explore the hundred-year history of the iconic Slovak mountaineering association James. Also, check out the documentary by T. Galásek, Rhapsodia Corcondica, which offers an authentic glimpse into pioneering mountaineering and exploration feats in the Asian highlands both past and present. The German documentary Wings Underfoot takes you to Sardinia, where climber Ola pushes her limits while discovering the joy of friendships amid the wild, free Mediterranean landscape. Lastly, a film by H. Pinkavová about the first woman to scale the eight-thousand-meter Himalayan peak, Cho Oyu, features Dina Sterb as she is portrayed not just as a mountaineer, but also as a humanitarian and mathematician.
