Sychrov Castle: open every day, even on Mondays
The Neo-Gothic Sychrov Castle used to be the home of the French-origin Rohan family and has been featured in stories like Goldilocks and Immortal Aunt. The castle offers three different tours, special night tours, falconry shows, and concerts. You can check out the opulent rooms, richly decorated with original artifacts, at any time throughout the year, even on Mondays. During the tours, you’ll get a glimpse of how the wealthy aristocratic family lived on their estate in the second half of the 19th century. The Rohan family was notable in the French elite, closely related to French royalty, and had marriage ties with nearly all the ruling families of Europe. The Rohans were big on showcasing their wealth, leading to Sychrov being renovated multiple times. You’ll adore the ornately decorated Oriental Salon featuring unique leather wallpaper from Paris, the Cardinal’s Room honoring the four cardinals linked to the Rohan family, a private Gabrielle of Rohan’s suite, and the intriguing cabinet of curiosities showcasing treasures from travels in Africa, America, and Europe.
Litomyšl Castle: Explore its interiors even in off-peak seasons
In 2024, Litomyšl Castle will be open to visitors year-round. From November to the end of March, you can explore selected historic rooms that have recently been updated for the first time. Tours of additional rooms from the era of the Count Waldstein family include second-floor rooms—the oldest theatre hall dating back to the 1860s, the guest suite of the Wallenstein family (complete with a salon, study, and bedroom with a bay chapel), and the manor oratory. On the ground floor, you’ll find a historic kitchen. The castle welcomes guests from Thursday to Sunday, with tours starting at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 2:00 PM.
Zákupy Castle: Visit Emperor Ferdinand daily except Mondays
Emperor Ferdinand I the Good was quite popular among the people of Bohemia, which may explain why he enjoyed spending time there. Every summer from 1851 to 1874, except in 1866 due to the Prussian-Austrian War, he would visit Zákupy in Českolipsko. The whole royal court accompanied him and Empress Maria Anna Carolina of Savoy, with the Emperor’s entourage including 65 people and 20 for the Empress. Many notable friends and celebrities also visited the imperial couple. At the Zákupy Castle, you could take part in the tour called The castle under Ferdinand the Good from April to early November. Following that, from November to April, you can enjoy a Winter tour, featuring highlights like the imperial elevator, Crown Prince Rudolph’s hunting room, the suite of Archduchess Maria Theresa (who was the stepmother of the heir Franz Ferdinand d’Este), the Cardinal’s Room, the suite of Therese of Fürstenberg (Hofmistress to Empress Maria Anna Carolina), and lavishly decorated rooms on the first floor, resembling a luxurious apartment from the era of the so-called First Republic. The castle is open every day of the week, except Mondays.
Mělník Castle: Enjoy wine cellars, dining, and sweets
When you think of Mělník and the Mělník Castle, keep in mind that it’s open all year round, specifically from Wednesday to Sunday, along with various attractions. You can enjoy stunning views while exploring the castle interiors. Don’t miss seeing the extensive wine cellars; some of the oldest ones are said to date back to the reign of Charles IV. Here, you will find beautifully carved wooden barrels, and you can even arrange a tasting session for Lobkowicz wines. If you want to explore further, stop by the Tourist Information Centre to schedule a tour of Mělník’s underground—it’s a short trip, but you’ll get a sneak peek at the widest medieval well in the Czech Republic.
Lednice Castle: Tour the interiors and stroll through the beautiful park

Prince Alois II of Lichtenstein transformed Lednice into a stunning summer residence designed in English Gothic style. The magnificent castle and its adjoining park invite visitors from November to the end of December, available every weekend from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. There are no tours available in January; however, the castle will reopen in early February. On the same date and time, the Castle’s palm greenhouse, which blooms even in the bleak wintry months, will also reopen. The castle is beautifully framed by a French garden and a sprawling landscaped park, one of the largest in the Czech Republic, where you’ll find remarkable decorative structures like Apollo’s Temple, the artificial ruins of John’s Castle, and the Border Chateau located on the old Moravian-Austrian border. Nearby, you’ll see a graceful minaret, a unique and historic architectural treasure completed between 1797 and 1804 by Josef Hardmuth.
Dětenice Castle: Open year-round, every day of the week
Dětenice Castle is one of the few cultural sites open to the public even in winter. When you take a tour of the castle, you can see 14 fully furnished rooms, complete with remarkable wall paintings done both al seco and al fresco, as well as baroque and rococo stucco designs. The interior reflects the taste and lifestyle of 18th-century nobility, showcasing life on a traditional country estate. During November and December, the castle is open on the weekends, offering a special program aimed at families with children, featuring spooky and fairy tale tours. Every Saturday in November (except for November 8, 2025), there will be zombie tours, and in December, special Devilish tours (held every hour). From November to late April, the castle is open only on weekends.
Hluboká Castle: Winter tour of the royal private suites
Starting November 4, the so-called Hluboká Castle is welcoming visitors. The Winter route allows you to see a total of nine temperate rooms that reflect the private suites of the last four generations of the estate’s owners, the Schwarzenbergs. This includes areas like a smoking lounge, a small dining area, a hunting dining room, a food prep area, a study, living room, and bedroom belonging to Dr. Adolf Schwarzenberg. This route will be available for exploration throughout November and until December 21, open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Starting January 2, it will reopen to guests daily except Mondays during the same hours, with the last tour available at 4 PM.
