Cheb Castle Welcomes Winter Visitor

Cheb CastleLike Loket Castle, Cheb Castle also opens its doors during the winter, specifically on weekends, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. You can buy tickets to the castle for 120 CZK at the ticket office located to the right of the entrance during these hours.

This winter marks the tenth season of the castle being open, offering not just a fascinating tour, but also fun for kids—if there’s enough snow, the large courtyard can be a great spot for sledding or making snowmen.

A Unique Display of Imperial Architecture in Cheb

cheb castleCheb Castle, built in the imperial style, is one of the most significant Romanesque landmarks in the Czech Republic. Some of the best-preserved features are the Chapel of St. Erhard and Ursula and the Black Tower, which are part of the castle’s original fortifications. Additionally, the castle has underground passages known as casemates, which date back to the construction of the town’s Baroque fortress system.

The tour route highlights the Baroque fortress architecture (including an example of the original brick vault and drainage systems). You will walk through a series of corridors that lead to a hall featuring an exhibit on the history of torture, and in the western casemates, you can explore the exhibit on Cheb’s stone masonry. The castle remains open from November to the end of March for winter operations. For groups of 10 or more, it’s possible to schedule tours outside regular hours by calling +420 602 169 298 or emailing [email protected].
