Discover Nuremberg from a New Perspective

If you climb the Cheb towers, you will see why this lovely town is called Little Nuremberg. The historic center is encircled by the Ohře River, and from above, it looks like a beautiful patchwork of roofs, towers, and bridges. The best views are from St. Nicholas Church tower or from the Bismarck tower on Zelená hora. Each spot gives you a new perspective, and together, they showcase Cheb as one of the most charming towns in Western Bohemia.
Additionally, you can explore Cheb’s towers and parks throughout the entire year. Every season brings its own unique charm – the freshness of spring by the Ohře River, the warm sun of summer on the old walls, the rich colors of autumn around the Bismarck tower, or the chilly winter views of the city enveloped in fog. Cheb consistently showcases its beauty from every height and during every time of year.
Views from the church, castle, tower, and footbridge
The striking feature of the city, St. Nicholas Church, is built where a Romanesque basilica from the 13th century once stood. After being damaged by fire, it was remodeled in Gothic style and has seen numerous changes over the years. In 2014, a lookout point was established on the south tower, providing a one-of-a-kind view of Cheb and the surrounding area, along with an underground crypt that now hosts an exhibition of historic church artifacts.
On the opposite side of the town lies Cheb Castle, one of the most significant Romanesque sites in the Czech Republic. From the top of The Black Tower, which served as a watchtower, you can see the old town and the countryside beyond. Within the castle grounds, you can admire the chapel of St. Erhard and Ursula, ancient stone walls, and the courtyard, offering a picturesque view of Cheb in all its beauty.
If you enjoy wide views, you will love the Bismarck Tower at Green Mountain. This beautiful stone tower, built in 1909, is one of the finest lookout towers in the country. After climbing up 114 steps, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of Cheb, Slavkovský les, and even the border with Germany. The tower was erected by local German patriots from the Cheb District Association as part of a tribute to the famous “Cheb” Bismarck towers and columns. More than 270 of these structures have been built around Germany and the world. In the Czech Republic, apart from Cheb, similar towers can be found in Aš and Mikulášovice.
A modern wooden viewpoint at the Vávra footbridge connects the city to the natural surroundings. Situated on the banks of the Ohře River, it provides a serene spot for observing the city from a fresh angle. From here, the romantic outline of the Cheb towers, framed by trees and water, creates an ideal stop for a leisurely stroll along the river.
