Discover Christmas Traditions of the First Republic at Loučeň Castle

Starting from November 17, 2025 and running until January 17, 2026, Loučín Castle is hosting special tours titled “The Story of the Christmas Tree“. There will be over 20 beautifully themed Christmas trees displayed, each decorated with unique exotic ornaments as well as traditional Czech decorations, many of which are made in the workshop of Koulier of Oflenda from Hlinsk.

This year’s tours will have the subtitle “One Hundred Years of Czech Christmas“. Inside Loučeň Castle, visitors can see a tree inspired by the beloved Czech fairy tale “Three Nuts for Cinderella”, delve into the traditions of “Old Bohemian Christmas”, and learn how Christmas was celebrated at the Imperial Court. Individuals who grew up in different times might remember Socialist Christmas celebrations. The festively decorated castle will also feature a number of fun activities. At a creative workshop, you’ll have the chance to decorate your very own Christmas ornament or purchase original pieces for your tree.

The largest Advent wreath and dazzling light show in the Czech Republic

The grounds of Loučín Castle are open every day, with tours of the exhibitions starting from November 17 daily (morning slots are set aside for school groups). Beginning on the first Saturday of Advent, you can also come and see the largest Advent wreath in the country that will be displayed in the castle’s courtyard. Each day at 5:00 PM, there will be an unforgettable light and music show projected right onto the castle. Make sure to also visit the castle garden after dark, as it’s beautifully lit up for the holiday season. The Yew Maze will be sparkling with thousands of lights, the castle bridge will be illuminated in a romantic way, and the colorful lights throughout the park will create a vibrant atmosphere.

Christmas tours are available every day of the week, even on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. On Christmas Eve, the castle will be open until 4:00 PM (with the last tour commencing at 3:00 PM). The admission fee is 300 CZK per person, which includes the tour titled “The Story of the Christmas Tree” and entry into the park featuring labyrinths.
