Šumava Špičák Gears Up for Winter Wonderland
This year, you can ski at Špičák in Sumava for lower prices compared to last year. For instance, during the beginning or end of the season, or on less busy weekdays like Tuesdays or Wednesdays, or when conditions are not great, skiing can cost from 750 crowns. However, if the slopes are in excellent condition and during peak periods when many people visit, the price for a ski pass can go up to CZK 1,050 for adults. Children’s ski pass prices also vary. Skiers should regularly check the e-shop and plan their skiing visits accordingly. Currently available are season passes, starting at CZK 8,100 for loyalty program members.
Before this season started, the ski area invested around 5 million crowns into improvements, notably expanding the snowmaking capacity, which is the largest in the region with 45 snow guns. Skiers and snowboarders will again enjoy the four-seater chairlift, as well as 6 additional lifts and a moving carpet designed for children.
Young kids interested in skiing and snowboarding will train on the Lubák slope (No.6), which is being converted from a snowpark back into a reliable training slope. Lubák will be open for public skiing whenever training isn’t happening.
This year, the skicross track on the main tourist slope will be ready as a youth race track. It will be tested before the skicross and snowboardcross competitions planned for January to March 2026. The Children’s Olympics are set to be held here in 2027.
A unique attraction Ski&Bike Špičák features the steepest ski slope in the Czech Republic – Šance, with a gradient reaching 100% (which is 45°). This slope includes a slalom course, a photo booth to check ride speed, and a funline track that has various terrain waves and a snow tunnel. The skicross and funline trails will be open as long as the snow conditions are good. Night skiing will also be available at Lower Chance.
Špičák comes alive with exciting events
Visitors can look forward to a wider variety of events this year. Along with the traditional Fireflies event on December 30, which features children carrying lanterns down the hill, there will also be a New Year’s Eve torchlight event, with a busy schedule planned for February and early March 2026.
In mid-February, ski mountaineers will gather for an event in collaboration with the Špičák Mountain Service, alongside the winter gear brand Hannah. This event will not only teach participants how to enjoy skiing safely on the slopes but will also include a ski mountaineering race, including categories for kids. Additionally, the Crossing the Puddle event is slated for March 7, 2026.
Ski school and ski rental information
One of the first established ski schools (since 1974) in the former Czechoslovakia is proud to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. In honor of its founder, who created the initial skiing instruction methodologies and was a long-time co-owner of Ski&Bike Špičák, the school will now be named the Josef Treml Academy.
The academy will open every day right after the season kicks off. It is located in modern facilities that provide comfortable spaces for students, their guardians, and instructors. This school teaches on several training slopes (under the Sirotek hotel and on the slope behind the Špičák railway station). There are additional slopes at the bottom of the main car park and the Lower Šanci, along with an area in front of the Blaženka and Hanička chalets, all including a ski pass and a playground for young children. The playground, conveyor belt, and small lifts located beneath the Sirotek Hotel and the K car park are free for children participating in the ski school.
Ski rental offers newly updated Rossignol skis every season. The rental facility can accommodate over 200 sets of downhill skis (including 65 new pairs, 50 snowboards, 30 cross-country skis, and ski equipment for individuals with disabilities). Helmets and back protectors are also available for rent. Additionally, you can rent snowshoes and sleds.
