Embark on a Thrilling Steam Train Adventure in Prague
This coming weekend, on November 29 and 30, 2025, we invite you to join us for a fantastic St. Nicholas Day celebration on campus! After a year off, the St. Nicholas rides are back! It’s a delightful experience with St. Nicholas, the devil, and an angel in the “Cyklohráček” excursion train, which will be beautifully decorated like the character from The Little Red Riding Hood. Children who recite a poem or sing a song will receive treats from the angel’s basket. The train will start and finish at the Chertographer station, located in Prague-Vršovice. The train will leave from Prague and travel to places like Vraný nad Vltavou or Roztoky u Prahy, providing not just fun but also a lovely winter journey for the entire family.
On Saturday, November 29, there will also be special St. Nicholas Day rides on a steam train through Prague and its nearby areas. You can choose between two rides. The morning ride leaves at 10:09 a.m. and will take you across the Branický Bridge and through the beautiful Berounka valley to Karlštejn station, where you can capture a memorable photo with the steam locomotive and the St. Nicholas group. The train will then return through the Berounka valley, making its way via the Smíchov railway station and crossing the Vyšehrad railway bridge over the Vltava River back to Vršovice. The afternoon ride departs from Vršovice at 1:50 p.m., traveling over the Vyšehrad railway bridge, up the famous Prague Semmering, and reaching Hostivice station via Zličín. After a brief stop, the train will continue over Rudná u Prahy to the scenic Prokopské údolí valley, eventually returning to the Smíchov railway station and ending in Vršovice. Onboard, there will be a historic buffet car with snacks and a service car designed for transporting strollers and bicycles.
On Sunday, November 30, we have an exciting advent circular steam train tour with St. Nicholas characters giving out gifts to Posázaví. Starting from Prague-Vršovice, you’ll travel along one of our most beautiful routes, the Posázava Pacific, tracing the Vltava and Sázava rivers from Prague to Davle and then to Týnec nad Sázavou. There, you can visit exhibitions at the Týnec Castle such as The Magic of Gingerbread Christmas or Unusual Christmas Trees, shop at the mini market, and enjoy demonstrations of picture embroidery, wood burning, as well as workshops for children. Afterward, you will head back to Prague through the Lada region via Čerčany and Senohraby. However, please note that the rides tend to sell out quickly, so it’s wise to book your seats in advance!
