Discover Trebic Castle: Explore Unique Cribs Crafted from Diverse Materials
The Museum of Highlands Trebic has organized a festive Christmas display featuring nativity scenes. This exhibition provides a fascinating look into both the historical and current traditions—showcasing classic Trebic nativity scenes from renowned artists dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries, alongside modern creations by local crib artisans.
Historical cribs include not only traditional building cribs but also unique box cribs. You can view them located in the stables of Třebíč Castle.
Many biblical scenes are crafted from a wide range of materials such as wood, straw, tin, glass, terra cotta, wax, modurite, ceramics, stone, corn husks, and several others. This year’s exhibition focuses not just on Nativity scenes, but also aims to depict the broader essence of Christmas. As you explore the exhibit, you’ll be transported to various settings like a castle chamber, a church, a rustic village, or a modern apartment.
In the Trebic crib area, it was common to find figurines painted on paper or cardboard. Nowadays, the cribs produced by Trebic artisans are primarily made from wood. Additionally, the museum has added cribs from past years’ acquisitions, including works by Roman Galek, Ilona Klawitter, and Josef Macholán. For young visitors, there is a special traditional children’s segment throughout the exhibition.
The Christmas exhibition will be available for viewing from 28 November 2025 to 18 January 2026, open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 5 PM. On Tuesday, 30 December, the Trebic exhibition will participate in the nationwide event Night of Nativity scenes. On that evening, the exhibition will remain open until 10 PM with the curator present to engage with guests. The exhibition is designed to be family-friendly, embracing individuals who cherish traditions and enjoy the magical atmosphere of Christmas.
