Jurkovič Tower Reopens for the New Year
The official visiting hours for Jurkovič tower concluded in October, but traditionally, it opens again in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm at the end of December. The lookout tower will be open from December 27, 2025, to January 1, 2026, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, depending on the weather.
This remarkable building is situated on Charles Hill in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, designed by the well-known architect Dušan Jurkovič, situated above the Wallachian Heritage Museum in a natural setting. Take a break during the bustling Christmas season or come to get rid of some holiday calories at the lookout tower, which offers a stunning view of the surrounding area. From here, you can see the western part of Hutiska, Vigantice, Hážovice, Tylovice, Kramolišov, the heart of Rožnov (including the Hradisko hill on the west), the northern sections of Rožnov beyond the Bečva river, villages located in the western area of the Rožnov furrow, a significant part of the Wallachian Open Air Museum, the city park, areas of Rožnov Letná, Rybníčky, parts of Horní Paski in the northern part of the city, and the Radhoště massif.
The lookout tower was constructed based on the original blueprints of Dušan Jurkovič, who was one of the most skilled architects from the early 20th century. He designed this observation tower that stands today on Charles Hill in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm back in 1896. However, it wasn’t actually built until 2012, accurately following Jurkovič’s original designs that are over a century old. The tower stands at a height of 32 metres, with the top observation platform reaching 19 metres. Most of the metalwork and nearly all the carpentry, including intricate details, were done by hand using traditional, nearly obsolete, working methods.
