Chase the Deer and Lynx to Kvilda—Discover Wolves Near Srní
Meet a group of wild boar or a herd of deer is not easy even in Šumava, where hundreds of these animals live. However, thanks to the Visitor Centre in Kvilda of the Šumava National Park Administration, it is no longer such a challenge and you can meet the wild animals almost face to face. Deer can be at Quilda observe from three special towerswhich stand on a more than two-kilometer educational circuit. It passes directly through a nine-hectare deer enclosure. Waiting for shy game, however, requires considerable patience and, above all, a quiet demeanor. The visitor centre is open all December outside the term 22 – 26 December 2025 a December 31 at 2:00 p.m. and January 1 2026 (enclosures are also closed).
Overwintering giants no longer in use
The observation pens for wintering deer were also well known. In the past some have been invaded unfortunately also wolves and took down several deer. The administration of the Šumava National Park therefore in the two largest game reserves has increased the number of escape points. Thorough “anti-wolf” measures have been implemented by the Šumava NP Administration in the preserves where wolves have appeared during the past winters. The deer were began to retreat to the preserves in December.. Guided observations will no longer take place. Deer, roe deer and roe deer will have more peace of mind. The secret life of the lynx
Besides deer, you can also observe the secret life of the lynx on the trail. Spot the lynx was, until recently, an absolute miracle for the average visitor to the national park. With the construction of a special enclosure for one of our largest beasts the situation for tourists has improved. A half-hectare area for lynxes, located just a few dozen metres from the deer, offers similar conditions to the Šumava wilderness. You can follow the action there from elevated observation points.
Wolves near Srni
In Šumava National Park, you can also go for wolves in Srni. The wolf enclosure is located not far from this Sumava village, in a hill with an area of about 3 ha. Outside the enclosure there is educational circuit, which introduces visitors to the tracks of beasts found in Šumava and some of the local trees and plants.
