Celebrating 50 Years of New Year’s Ascents at Ještěd

The New Year’s March takes you up the blue hiking trail to the summit of Ještěd, which is 1012 meters above sea level. You can sign up for the event in Horní Hanychov at the tram terminus—specifically at the tourist information center—from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m.
The first participants will begin their adventure at 8:30 a.m. The event will occur regardless of weather conditions and is taken at your own risk. We suggest using hiking poles, and if the weather worsens, it’s a good idea to take the road route back. Every participant will receive a certificate and a special New Year stamp once they reach the top.
Did you know that the mountain hotel and transmitter known as Ještěd was awarded the title of the best Czech building of the 20th century? You can reach it via various marked trails and comfortable asphalt roads. In the winter, you can also enjoy a well-equipped and modern ski area!
On the first floor of the tower, there is a public observation gallery that is covered, and there are also nice views from the restaurant or café located higher up. From this point, you can see clearly in all directions, including 149 kilometers away to Klínovec in the Ore Mountains, the Žižkov Tower in Prague, or the Říp Mountain.
