Discover Spring Break 2026 in the Olomouc Region – Inspiration for unforgettable experiences!

The spring holidays are a great opportunity to spend time with your family, explore beautiful places in the region and relax. The Olomouc Region offers many ways to spend your free time actively and relaxingly. Here are some tips that will appeal to lovers of nature, history, culture and sport.
Fun and relaxation in Olomouc and its surroundings
What can children do in Olomouc? We definitely recommend the Olomouc Zoo. It is a medium-sized place that is adapted for young children to enjoy. The free-range enclosures with macaques and goats will thrill children. Other attractions include marine aquariums and pavilions with exotic animals. A rarity is the 32-metre-high observation tower, from which you can see not only Olomouc, but almost the whole of Moravia. Among the new enclosures, we would like to mention the recently renovated “bábovka” (bundt cake), as the staff nickname the large aviary, which is up to fifteen metres high and allows birds to fly freely thanks to its spaciousness. In 2023, a safari with Hudson’s white wolves opened here for the first time – Olomouc Zoo is the only zoo in our country that breeds these wolves. Until the end of February, you can take advantage of cheaper “winter” admission.
Current information about events in the Olomouc Region
Are you a fan of science? Then head to the Fortress of Knowledge in Olomouc, the first interactive science museum in Central Moravia. It is located in the Korunní pevnůstka complex and belongs to the category of science centres, which provide an informal environment for playful exploration of natural and social phenomena. At the fort, you can personally experience experiments and see things that are not normally visible. You can walk through a model of the brain, encounter larger-than-life water insects, flood the city with a hundred-year flood, solve big brain teasers, or explore the starry sky thanks to the digital planetarium.
If you like water, we recommend a visit to the Olomouc Aquapark. The relaxation area includes a massage pool, whirlpools, steam saunas, saunas, solariums and massages. The multi-purpose pool offers water spouts, a water wall and a trampoline. The Velké Losiny Thermal Park is also great fun, offering a unique combination of relaxation and beneficial thermal waters. The outdoor area of the thermal park has four outdoor pools and there are five more pools inside, making it the only park in the country where all the pools are filled with natural thermal water.
Active experiences in nature
Where to go skiing? In the Jeseníky Mountains, you have plenty of choices! Of course, it depends on where you are coming from, but there are only two routes leading from the southern part to the northern part of the Jeseníky Mountains: either from Šumperk via Velké Losiny and around the Kouty ski resort to Červenohorské sedlo and then around Skipark Filipovice to Bělá pod Pradědem and on to Jeseník, or alternatively via Ramzovské sedlo. In the middle of Hrubý Jeseník lies the Praděd Ski Resort, which is the highest ski resort in the Czech Republic. Other interesting places are the Kopřivá Ski Resort near Malá Morávka and the Karlov Ski Arena. Incidentally, since 2023, the Kopřivá Ski Resort has been offering a virtual ski pass that you can download to your phone and use to pass through the turnstiles without the need for a chip card – you don’t even have to take your phone out. The plains around Rejvíz and the peaks of the Jeseníky Mountains are ideal for cross-country skiers, and you can easily reach them by cable car from Ramzovské sedlo. If you decide to go on a hike from Šerák via Keprník and Vřesová Studánka to Červenohorské sedlo, you can look forward to a beautiful 9 km route with breathtaking views. Another popular route is between Skřítek and Hvězda. Ski buses are available on weekends.
Be prepared for bad weather
What to do on holiday if the weather is not favourable? This question may also be asked by those who do not like skiing. Even in this case, we will not leave you in the lurch; we offer other tips. For example, you can visit Praděd’s Children’s Museum, which offers an amusement park of almost 600 m² with various playful exhibitions inside.
What may surprise you is the possibility of visiting caves even in winter. There are three to choose from in the Olomouc Region. You can enjoy a nice walk in the Javoříčská Cave, or plan a Wednesday tour of the Na Pomezí Cave, known for its narrow and sometimes high corridors, which turn into smaller domes in the expansions. Since last year, the Na Špičáku Cave near Jeseník has been open to tourists, and tours are available by appointment every Wednesday at three times: 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. In addition to the unique heart-shaped corridors, you can also see sleeping bats.
