Skiers, Krakonoš, and Smugglers: An Exciting Adventure Awaits!
An unusual event called the Skiers’ race in historical costumes will happen on 29 January 2026 as a part of the renowned Jizerská 50 race. This event serves as a nostalgic reminder of the era when the history of the Jizerská 50 first started and will be held on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest competitor, the best historical costume , and the skier who accomplishes the best jump.
Once again, the Kedr Ski Resort is set to host the annual event, Skiers in Smržovka. This competition will feature downhill skiing, jumping, and a finish on vintage skis while wearing period clothing, taking place on 21 February 2026. The festivities will kick off at 12:00 noon at the Kedr Ski Resort. Everyone watching can anticipate some truly unique competitions: paraslalom, downhill skiing, and jump-fly.
As it happens every year, the mountain spirit Krakonoš will make an appearance in Harrachov to celebrate the arrival of spring. This event is scheduled for 14 March 2026. Attendees will not only get to meet Krakonoš but will also see his police squad, mischievous little devils who won’t let any wrongdoer escape, and many other fascinating beings. At the conclusion of Krakonoš’s journey, a rich program filled with culture and entertainment will be available for everyone throughout the afternoon.
For anyone interested in seeing skiing equipment from the earlier days of the sport within our country, the exhibition on the history of skiing in Jilemnice is a must-visit. Among the audience favorites are the large peasant sleighand the rohačka sleigh. Additionally, you can view the oldest skis, rare color photographs from the late 19th century, and mannequins dressed in period ski attire. The first competitive race in Jilemnice occurred in 1895, and by 1897, the first international contests took place. Since that time, the inclusion of female competitors has become a standard part of the races.
Smugglers in Rokytnice nad Jizerou
You are also invited to step back in time on Friday, 13 February 2026 in Rokytnice nad Jizerou for the Smugglers’ Convention. While eagerly waiting for Friday afternoon, when Krakonoš is anticipated to arrive in the town, visitors can participate in contests and observe skiers clad in period costumes. However, it is important to note that the popular fair will not be held this year once again. Following the arrival of Krakonoš, a grand departure of him, smugglers, and skiers to the Studenov area will take place. From 5 p.m. at the Studenov ski resort, attendees can enjoy skiers in action, a dazzling fire show, and a torchlight descent, along with plenty of festive fun in the snow!
