The princess with endless transformations
The main character in this fairy tale is Princess Stella. She is unique in that she wakes up every day as a different person – from a small child to a young woman to an elderly woman or a powerful personality “stronger than a mountain”. These transformations are not only the basis of the story, but also an excellent opportunity to show the diverse environment where the film was shot. Filming took place in picturesque Czech castles and chateaux, which represented the princess’s home in the Apple Kingdom, as well as various places where the princess goes on her adventures.
The creator of this fairy tale is director Miloslav Šmídmajer, who visited a number of historical sites in the Hradec Králové, Ústí nad Labem and Pardubice regions with his team. In the Hradec Králové Region, the filmmakers shot at the chateaux in Náchod, Opočno and Kost Castle. In the Ústí nad Labem Region, the camera appeared in the park of the Libochovice Chateau and in the beautiful area of the Tiské stěny rock formations. In the Pardubice Region, the filmmakers focused their attention on the Slatiňany Chateau and the historic water tower in Chrast near Chrudim.
Which actors played which roles in the fairy tale?
During filming, the actors moved around beautiful monuments that brought the colourful fairy-tale world to life. Anna Nováková, who played Princess Stella, walked through the rooms of Opočno Castle and also visited Kost Castle during her journey. Petra Horáková, in the role of Queen Matilda, appeared in the magnificent halls of Náchod Castle. Jan Černý, as the wise wizard Merlinus, attempted to perform magic in the rock labyrinth of Tiské stěny and in the park of Libochovice Castle, where he added the right magical atmosphere to the scenes. Lucie Šimková, Tomáš Vacek and Eliška Dvořáková appear in smaller roles, moving between Slatiňany Castle and the historic parts of Chrast near Chrudim.
