Nearly 23.6 Million Visitors Explored Czechia Last Year: A Testament to the Nation’s Booming Tourism and Esteemed European Status!

Yearly Balance: Stable Domestic Market, Strong Growth from Abroad
In 2025, Czechia welcomed 12.6 million residents, marking a 2.5% increase from the previous year. Domestic guests spent a total of 32.4 million nights in Czechia, also up by 2.5%. In contrast, inbound tourism saw an even brisker growth, with the number of foreign guests increasing by 4.1% and overnight stays rising by 5% to reach 26.8 million nights. This suggests that foreign visitors are staying longer, which significantly benefits the tourism economy.

Last year, Czechia was a popular holiday choice for travelers from neighboring countries, particularly Germany (2,347,163 visitors, down 1% year-on-year), Poland (939,296, up 11.9% year-on-year), and Slovakia (931,856, up 3.9% year-on-year). Notable visitors also arrived from the United States, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and Italy. Among the most impressive growth were visitors from Israel (254,964, +33.4% year-on-year) and the United Arab Emirates (33,778, +30% year-on-year). Significant increases were also seen from travelers from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Japan, Argentina, and China.

“The year 2025 has shown that Czechia remains one of the most popular European destinations. We observe strong interest from abroad, along with a stable interest from domestic tourists keen to explore our country,” says František Reismüller, Director of CzechTourism. “Encouragingly, the length of stay has not diminished, and the number of overnight stays by foreign guests is increasing faster than arrivals. We’ve gained nearly 1.3 million additional nights compared to last year, bringing us close to the pre-COVID levels of 2019. Additionally, visitors are increasingly exploring areas beyond the main tourist centers, which aligns with our goal of fostering quality, sustainable, and year-round tourism.”
Below 2019 Levels for the Second Year in a Row
The year 2025 confirmed that tourism in Czechia not only fully recovered from the pandemic but is also showing continuous growth. Compared to 2019, there were 1.6 million more tourists staying in domestic accommodations, with an increase of 2.1 million overnight stays. Czechia has thus managed to leverage the return of travel into sustained growth and strengthen its position in the international market.

The differences in the average length of stay across regions reflect the diverse offerings. In the Karlovy Vary region, guests stayed an average of 4.78 days, while in the South Moravian region, it was 2.95 days, and in Prague, 3.3 days.

CzechTourism is actively monitoring these trends this year, focusing on marketing Czechia as a safe destination brimming with extraordinary experiences: from active tourism and spas to quality gastronomy and sustainable travel options.

Strong End to the Year: Q4 2025 Shows Year-on-Year Growth
The positive trend continued into Q4 2025, with arrivals increasing by 4.1% year-on-year and overnight stays up by 4.6%. From October to December, 5.2 million guests visited Czechia, accounting for 12.2 million nights spent, with 2.5 million coming from domestic visitors and 2.7 million from abroad.

Most Q4 visitors chose to stay in hotels, which welcomed 4.2 million guests—up 3.6% year-on-year. Nights spent in hotels rose by 4.7%, totaling 9.4 million. The most significant growth was seen among five-star hotels, which are particularly popular with foreign guests.

Guest houses also reported positive growth. More than half a million guests spent 1.1 million nights in these establishments, showing increases in both Czech and international visitors.

Regionally, all areas of Czechia saw an increase in guests during Q4, with the fastest growth occurring in the Olomouc, South Bohemia, and Liberec regions. While the number of foreign visitors slightly decreased in the Pilsen region, other regions attracted a higher number of international guests compared to the previous year. The only exception was the Hradec Králové Region, where overnight stays declined, while other areas continued to grow.
