Are You a Wine Lover? Bořetice in South Moravia is Hosting Its Inaugural Frankovka Competition

In Bořetice, we’ve got two exciting trends happening right now: tourism and winemaking. These are closely tied to the efforts of the free wine-growing community of Kravihorci, which resides in their Free Federal Republic of Kraví hora (SSRKH).
This unique republic was established in 2000 and possesses all the characteristics of an independent nation. It has its own government, led by a president, a dedicated language, a currency called the “kravihorec” that is pegged to the euro, a detailed constitution with 23 articles, passports, an army, an information service, as well as a flag and coat of arms.
A new event to look forward to in 2026 is the International Frankovka Day in Bořetice – featuring a competition and celebration on 13–14 February 2026 that honors the popular wine variety – Frankovka. This festival attracts wine enthusiasts not just from the Czech Republic, but also from various other countries. Attendees can expect an exciting program filled with wine tastings, folk music, and traditional dishes from Moravia.
Frankovka – the highlight of the festival
Frankovka, often referred to as Blaufränkisch, is a classic blue grape variety from Central Europe. It is known for producing wines that have a unique aroma, fruity flavors, and refreshing acidity. This grape variety flourishes exceptionally well in Bořetice.
