Discover Ústí nad Labem in just one day – Endless fun!

The most slanted tower in the country
If you are planning what to see in Ústí nad Labem in one day, you may appreciate a few tips on the most photogenic places. Although industrial, the city hides many beautiful places. In the city centre, you will discover one of its attractions: the most leaning tower in Czechia, located next to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This tower is 65 metres high and, after bombing at the end of the Second World War, it tilted two metres off its axis. Although you cannot currently access the tower and the largest bell in the Ústí nad Labem Region, this may change in the future.

Guardians of the Elbe Valley
From the Forum shopping centre in the heart of Ústí, take the cable car to the Větruše chateau and then set off along the Větruše – Vrkoč nature trail. A pleasant walk through the forest will take you to the Vaňov Waterfall. On the way, stop at the Humboldt Lookout and the lookout above the Vrkoč rock formation. The entire route is less than four kilometres long, so it is not far. You can then meet up on the banks of the Elbe, from where you can return by bus to the centre of Ústí nad Labem or continue along the river to the Masaryk Lock. Directly above the lock is a footbridge where you can see a stone lion carved into a pillar: this is the last river step on Czech territory. You will also find a fish passage with a glass observation point and even a nesting site for sand martins, which is built into the wall separating the passage from the river.

Střekov Castle towers above the lock. It is about a kilometre from the lock to the castle gate, which you can reach by following the yellow tourist trail. If the weather is nice and you like to stop at restaurants and cafés with a view, don’t hesitate to visit one before entering the castle, from where you will have the Elbe Valley at your fingertips.
Out into nature, to the zoo or to a restaurant for something tasty?
Don’t have much time for walks, but would rather enjoy some quieter entertainment? In that case, take a short walk through Bertiny Valley, which is now almost in the city centre, or check out the exhibitions and programmes offered by the Ústí nad Labem City Museum. At Kudy z nudy, you will also find interesting places for families with children and recommendations for popular restaurants and gastronomic experiences.

The Ústí nad Labem Zoo, located on the steep slopes of Mariánská hora, will provide you with several hours of enjoyable entertainment. You can take the zoo train from the main entrance to the upper entrance and then comfortably stroll through the garden downhill back to the lower entrance. But remember to do so by the end of October during the weekends, because then the train goes into hibernation.
