Winter walks to the lookout tower on Tábor Hill

Tichánkova rozhlednaThis lookout tower, which was built in 1911 to replace an older structure, is located on top of a hill and still stands there today. Its builder, Václav Slaba, was a teacher in Lomnice. The main building material used for its construction was the famous bricks from the brickworks in Pulice, which made it possible to build a tower 35 metres high. There are 145 steps leading to the viewing platform, which is 29 metres above the ground. There used to be a tourist chalet below the lookout tower, which now serves as a guesthouse.

Today, the Tichánek Lookout Tower is open all year round. It has its own entrance with a turnstile, which is operated by coins, and the entrance fee is CZK 20 (please note that the turnstile does not return coins). The nearest bus stop is in Lomnice nad Popelkou, which is about 2 km away, and the nearest railway station is in the village of Ploužnice, which is about 1 km away. If you are travelling by car, you can park directly at the guesthouse, which is located near the lookout tower. In winter, the access roads are maintained by snow ploughs, but if there is not too much snow, the roads are usually passable. The Way of the Cross also leads to the top of Mount Tábor.

Once you climb the last step to the lookout tower, you will be rewarded with an amazing view. You can see dozens of lookout towers and hills in the area, such as Kozákov, Zebín, Trosky, Černá hora, Zvičina, Ještěd, Bezděz and many others. On the western slope of Mount Tábor, there is also a natural monument called Jezírko pod Táborem (Lake below Tábor).
