Experience Thrilling Skiing at Špičák in Šumava: Don’t Miss Skicross and Ski Mountaineering

At the largest ski center in the Plzeň Region, known as Špičák Ski Resort, skiing is still available right now. Even though the spring holidays are happening, you won’t find long lines for the cable car or lifts, plus there are plenty of slopes to keep everyone comfortable without feeling overcrowded. Moreover, frost is expected to return this weekend, which will bring some fresh snow.
The following slopes are currently open: The Blue One Tourist slope is open in its full length and offers the option to use the ski cross track in its lower section or finish by taking the cable car along the red two U Zalomeného, which is partially skiable. The Red Three Slalom is also open in its entirety. Additionally, the Blue Spodní Šance is open completely and features a timed slalom and evening skiing sessions from Wednesday to Saturday. There are teaching slopes located below Sirotek, along with the ski slope To the car park and a children’s playground with a moving carpet.
The ski cross track has been accessible to the public since February 11, 2026. It is designed for everyone, including children and novices, allowing them to enjoy four banked turns and a thrilling series of waves.
Ski mountaineering Saturday
On Saturday, February 14, 2026, the entire day at the Špičák Ski Resort will focus on ski mountaineering. Ski Špičák, in collaboration with the local mountain rescue service, will provide a series of workshops on how to safely and responsibly enjoy and practice this rapidly growing sport. Those interested will also have the chance to try out various equipment from different brands for free. The ski mountaineering events will conclude at 5 p.m. (one hour after skiing ends) with the Šumavský rys 2026, where participants will tackle the number one Turistická. Overall, they will complete a route of 6.5 kilometers with a total elevation gain of 670 meters. After the race, there will be a social gathering to celebrate.
The Špičák Ski Resort is consistently recognized as one of the most affordable ski resorts in the Czech Republic, featuring multi-seat chairlift access. It provides sports slopes alongside easier slopes suitable for families with children (a total of 8.5 km). This diversity makes it appealing to a broad range of skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Both newcomers and seasoned skiing enthusiasts will find entertaining activities here. A well-known unique feature of Špičák in the Šumava Mountains is the steepest ski slope in the Czech Republic, called Šance, boasting a gradient of up to 100% (45°).
