Discover Charming Modern Wineries: The Best Places to Stay on Your Wine Adventures

Wine cellars and painted gems remain in our memories at Kudy z nudy, but this time you will see them more as great places for trips. In this case, we prefer wineries that have undergone architectural revitalisation. Instead of dark wine cellars, you can enjoy terraces, comfortable seating and stunning views. Instead of traditional Slovácko ornaments, you will encounter modern design. The experience of selected wines remains the same, but you don’t have to rush home. On the contrary, we offer you accommodation directly at the wineries, in a modern environment with excellent cuisine and great services. Which winery will you choose?

Gurdau Winery

Not far from Hustopeče lies the historic wine-growing village of Kurdějov. Local wine has always had an excellent reputation, and the dominant feature of Kurdějov is still the fortified Church of St. John the Baptist. A modern attraction is the Gurdau Winery. The concrete wave-shaped wine house was designed by architect Aleš Fiala and stands right among the vineyards. The production and archive are located underground, while the ground floor houses tasting rooms and a shop. You can stay here in two apartments, which are equipped with many design elements, such as a Bang & Olufsen audio system or a Vispring – Divan prestige bed, on which you will feel as if you are floating on clouds. In addition, you will find French wine cosmetics of organic origin from the Caudalie brand, so you can enjoy grapes not only in liquid form.

Obelisk Winery

A place that once commanded respect now attracts wine lovers: the Obelisk Winery is located on the road from Valtice to Katzelsdorf in Austria, where there used to be a border guard post. The winery continues the work of the Liechtensteins and the restoration of the landscape in the meanders of the Dyje River and in the Obelisk game reserve near Lednice. You can come here, sit on the terrace, taste the local wine and enjoy the extraordinary views of Valtice and Pálava. Obelisk will be happy to arrange a guided tasting or a tour of the production facilities. You can stay in one of four comfortably furnished rooms with private entrances. These rooms are decorated in pleasant grey tones with wood accents, and of course, each room has a private wine cellar full of local wines.

Thaya Winery

The original Thaya Winery complex with a hotel and restaurant near the Austrian border in Havraniky began operating in 2022, but it is no newcomer to the wine scene. Thaya Winery was created by transforming the Trávníček and Kořínek winery, which had its place on both the global and domestic wine markets. The name has changed, but their philosophy and approach remain the same. Production is divided into several categories: basic Thaya, Greetings from the Podyjí National Park, VOC, Premium and the exclusive Apri with wines from wooden barrels.

The complex, designed by architect Jakub Cigler, is divided into a working part of the winery and a part for relaxation and wine tourism. Between these parts is a former granary, where you will find the hotel reception, offices, a conference lounge, a viewing terrace on the roof, and a stylish restaurant with a summer terrace on the ground floor. The granary is surrounded by other buildings, giving the complex the appearance of a classic Moravian village. You can stay in stylish rooms, which may remind some of a hobbit village and others of small wine cellars. These rooms are modern, cosy and will certainly make your stay very pleasant!

Gotberg Winery

The vineyards on the Stará hora nad Popicemi vineyard trail have been known since the 13th century. According to tradition, in August 1522, King Louis Jagiellon ordered wines from the slopes of Sonneberg, the Sun Hill, and wines from Popice subsequently made their way to the court of Maria Theresa in Vienna. The modern Gotberg winery, designed by architect Martin Bukolský, was recently built here. The winery offers tastings for anyone who stops here on their journey through South Moravia. There are seven double rooms available. All rooms are located in the main building of the winery and offer a unique view of Pálava and the Novomlýnská lakes when you wake up.

Hotel Vinice Hnanice

Wine tourism enthusiasts will have a reason to visit Hnanice not only for its cellar streets and old church, but also thanks to the Vinice Hnanice wine hotel. This hotel is situated in picturesque and extensive vineyards on the edge of the Podyjí National Park, near the iconic Šobes vineyard. There are several other vineyards around the hotel – Knížecí vrch, Fládnická, U chlupa and U kapličky – which are treated with special care due to their location directly in or near the national park. On the north-western edge of the U kapličky vineyard, the Devět mlýnů viewpoint offers an attractive view of the meanders of the Dyje River and Šobes. The hotel welcomes you with its original and stylish stone design. In addition to well-appointed rooms, you will find a sunny terrace, an outdoor and indoor swimming pool, and a wine bar.

Dog in Dock Winery by the Baťa Canal

For those who want to combine wine with trips and cruises on the Baťa Canal, the Dog in Dock winery, located a short distance from Veselí nad Moravou, is the perfect choice. This winery was born out of a pure passion for quality wine and a desire to share it with anyone who has similar interests. Here you will find a sculpture by David Černý and a bistro, and you can stay in modern apartments. The cosy Kajak and Loďka apartments are ideal for romantic stays for two, while the spacious Plachetnice, Jachta or Katamarán apartments are great for families with children. Each apartment has a small balcony or front garden with a view of the castle park and the calm waters of the Baťa Canal, where you can watch the boats go by, which will entertain curious visitors of all ages.
