Spring celebrations, traditional customs and unique tours

VelikonoceEaster will take place at the beginning of April this year. The programme in Central Bohemia during the Easter holidays can offer surprising experiences. You can enjoy old customs and traditions, learn how to weave a pomlázka (Easter whip), or spend the holidays in beautiful spring nature. Near Prague, you can choose from a wide range of activities that encourage you to explore, go for walks, go on cycling trips, or taste the delicious cuisine associated with these holidays. On Saturday, 28 March, you can look forward to a farmers’ market, blacksmith workshops, baking and other interesting activities in the castle grounds of Dobřichovice. Easter markets are also held in other places in Central Bohemia, such as Kutná Hora, Poděbrady, Průhonice, Sedlčany and Kostelec nad Černými lesy.

The Škoda Museum is also preparing a programme on 24 March, where you can take home a decoration you have made yourself. The Mělník Regional Museum is inviting visitors to a fair with craft demonstrations and workshops for children on 28 March.

Easter in open-air museums

Bílá sobota v Muzeu lidových staveb v KouřimiVisitors can learn how miners used to celebrate Easter from 28 to 29 March and from 2 to 5 April in Příbram in the Březové hory mountains. In the miners’ cottage, you can enjoy the smell of traditional pastries and folk songs. The Vysoký Chlumec open-air museum also offers an interesting programme. From 2 to 5 April, demonstrations of traditional customs and crafts will take place in the authentic setting of rural cottages. You can relax on site or purchase ceramic products. The open-air museum in Kouřim is also preparing spring celebrations, which will once again offer stories about Lenten and Easter customs, spinning Passion thread, and walking with Judas. Easter-related programmes will take place here on Saturday, 4 April.

Central Bohemian castles and chateaux at Easter

An Easter atmosphere in a historical setting is also promised at Křivoklát Castle, where sales stalls, a cultural programme and demonstrations of folk crafts are planned from 3 to 5 April. At Okoř Castle, you can experience a medieval Easter. On Sunday, 5 April, you can listen to medieval music, watch fencing performances, and various competitions will be prepared for children.

You will learn how the princely family celebrated Easter and what they prepared for their grandchildren at Loučeň Castle. Easter tours of the castle take place every day from 21 March to 12 April. Don’t forget to check out the celebration at Chateau Mcely, where you can relax, enjoy a special menu accompanied by music, or take part in Easter crafts. From Thursday, 2 April to Monday, 6 April, there will be a varied programme of events both in the castle and in the castle park.

velikonoce zámek žlebyDuring Easter, from 3 to 6 April, you can visit the spring-decorated salons at Žleby Castle. The tour will be complemented by stories about old Czech Easter customs and baking in the historic castle kitchen. Easter events at Kačina Castle will introduce you to local customs and traditions. Castle Easter takes place here on several dates: 21 and 22 March, 28 March, and from 2 to 6 April. You will learn how the Chotek family spent the holidays, and you will find Easter symbols and decorations in the interior. The castle park will also offer a family game for young and old.

Easter egg from the glassworks

nižbor rücklYou can also welcome the holidays at the Rückl glassworks in Nižbor. Here you can blow your own colourful Easter egg from hot glass and create a glass, bowl or plate with spring motifs in the grinding shop. You will learn how to arrange Easter decorations on the table or weave a whip from willow twigs. Activities such as gingerbread decorating and face painting will be available for children. Choose your favourite colour and shape the hot glass as you wish.

Central Bohemian monuments and museums will also be open during the Easter holidays. Visit, for example, the Karel Čapek Memorial in Stará Huť near Dobříš, the Czech Museum of Silver in Kutná Hora or the Museum of the Bohemian Karst in Beroun.
