Discover the magic of the queen of winter flowers!

zámek rájecThis year’s camellia exhibition in Rájec-Jestřebí will take place on the first floor of the Rájec nad Svitavou chateau and will enrich the interiors with beautiful, flowering local camellia bushes. There will also be stunning arrangements of cut flowers on display.

The theme of the exhibition, entitled “Camellias in the Age of Industrialists”, will be located in the private and guest apartments on the first floor of the castle.

The exhibition will be open to all interested parties from Friday 6 March to 15 March 2026, every day from 9:00 to 15:00, except Mondays. On weekends, visitors can view the exhibition with a printed guide, while on weekdays there will be guided tours for small groups. The exhibition is part of the Basic Tour II. The castle greenhouses will also be open during the same time. The exhibition “Camellias in the Age of Industrialists” is wheelchair accessible, but access to the castle greenhouses is limited due to repairs to the terraces in the horticultural garden.

Behind the camellias in the greenhouse

zámek rájecDuring the “Camellias” exhibition at Rájec nad Svitavou Castle, the castle greenhouses will also be open from 6 March to 15 March 2026. They will be accessible every day from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A ticket purchased for the exhibition also allows entry to the greenhouses, but the reverse is not true. The opening of the greenhouses is a unique opportunity, as they are usually closed to the public outside the camellia flowering season. The entrance to the garden is through the main gate from Blanenská Street. During your visit to the greenhouses, you will have the opportunity to purchase various varieties of camellias. Separate admission to the greenhouses costs CZK 60, which is a flat rate.

The largest collection of camellias in the Czech Republic

Collecting camellias was very popular among the nobility and other wealthy classes in the 19th century. Special greenhouses were built for these plants, or they were used to decorate winter gardens. A unique example of the famous camellia period is the collection carefully maintained in the castle gardens in Rájec nad Svitavou. This collection was created from mother plants brought in 1973 from the Research Institute of Ornamental Horticulture, located in Průhonice near Prague. From the beginning of February to the end of March, you can admire the largest collection of camellias in the Czech Republic, with around 300 different varieties, in the castle greenhouse. If you grow camellias, you will certainly appreciate the opportunity to consult with a specialist.
