The start of the boating season on the Vltava

This Sunday, 22 March 2026, the All-Vltava Association is organising Vltava Day for the residents of Prague and the surrounding area. You can look forward to boat trips on a variety of vessels, both large and small, departing from the Na Františku, Nepomuk, Výtoň and Holešovice jetties. There will be an open day at the State Navigation Administration and an official opening, as well as open days at the Racek boat hotel, the Slavia rowing club and other institutions. You can also view historical military equipment at the Hergetova brickworks. An entertainment programme will be prepared for children, and visitors can look forward to interesting stories about the water sprite.
At the Czech Yacht Club, you will have the chance to see the restored cabins of Josef Rössler-Orovský and gain an insight into the lives of yachtsmen. The Podolská Customs House in Výtoň will be open to the public. You can also see an ambulance and the Hippocampus stand, where blood pressure measurements and demonstrations of diving equipment will take place. The Prague Fire Brigade and the River Police will be showcasing their skills.
Where all the events will take place
Hardy swimmers will take a dip in the Vltava beneath Charles Bridge. Furthermore, small boats will be available for hire at the Slovanka and Klub Lávka rental centres! Voroplavba from Český Krumlov will take you for a ride on the Čertovka! Come to the Vltava and enjoy plenty of fun and learning!
Visitors to Vltava Day will have free access to, for example, Holešovice Harbour – where sightseeing cruises will take place on the Blaník, Alka and Czech Boat vessels. An open day will be held in the nearby State Navigation Administration building, where children can build their own raft and enjoy a children’s theatre show.
Many other attractions await you in the Vltava Valley, which stretches between Mánes Bridge and Jirásek Bridge. Boats will set sail from the Mánes pier towards Čertovka, and a packed programme will take place at Herget’s Brickworks, as we have already mentioned. This also includes the Nepomuk pier and events around Charles Bridge, where entry to the Old Town Bridge Tower will be free. Beneath Jiráskův Bridge you will find the Slavia Rowing Club, where you can try out rowing simulators.
At the Charles Bridge Museum, you have the opportunity to visit fascinating exhibitions free of charge. Every hour on the hour, there is an entertaining guided tour, during which children learn in a playful way how Charles Bridge was built, who commissioned it, and what Prague looked like in the Middle Ages. Together, you will explore the mysterious underground, where the arch of the original Judith Bridge is located.
The Rašínovo (Výtoň), Hořejší (Smíchovské) and Podolské nábřeží cordially invite you to take a boat trip on the Smíchov and Podolské ferries, watch demonstrations by the river police (at Hořejší) and the Podskalská customs house at Výtoň (at Rašínovo), where you will also have the chance to hop aboard the Explorer for a sightseeing cruise. The oldest shipyard in the Czech Republic, the Czech Yacht Club in Podolí (near Vyšehrad), and the Botel Racek near Rowing Island also invite you to guided tours.
The old sewage treatment plant in Bubeneč is joining Vltava Day this year and has a unique story and significance for the modern city in store for visitors. It is organising special tours tailored to the youngest visitors and their parents who want to show their children something truly out of the ordinary. It is necessary to book places in advance.
Did you know that beneath Karlín lies a secret world of tunnels, huge reservoirs and technology that protects the city from flooding? Following the catastrophic floods of 2002, a unique flood protection system was created – and now you have the chance to take a look inside it! A guided tour led by experts from Prague Waterworks and Sewerage (PVK) is available, taking you into the underground complex near Rohanské Station. You’ll also see a massive retention reservoir with a capacity of 6,000 m³ of water – which is like imagining six million litres! Booking is required to secure your place.
