Spring into Adventure: Discover Guided Animal Encounters at Ostrava Zoo

Guided feeding sessions at Ostrava ZooAnimal feeding involves commentary provided by the animal keepers, allowing visitors to not just see the animals, often up close, but also to discover many fascinating details about their care in the zoo and their current status in the wild, which is frequently quite dire.

For numerous species that are threatened in their natural habitats, reproduction in zoos is often the last hope to save these animals for future generations.

When to visit which animals

A session with the macaques happens at noon (at the Wander Pavilion). Starting at 13:30, you can gain some intriguing insights about chimpanzees (inside the Evolution Pavilion). On weekends and holidays, the following sessions are also added: 9:30 for pandas, 10:00 for hippos (in the Tanganyika Pavilion), 11:00 for mandrills (round enclosure), 13:30 for otters (Čitván), and 14:45 for elephants (inside the pavilion). More animals will be featured starting in May. Some encounters might be canceled due to bad weather or unexpected operational issues.

The zoo operates in March from 9 am to 6 pm, but keep in mind that the pavilions and ticket sales stop one hour earlier, at 5 pm. During the last weekend of March, visitors can join botanical tours that focus on bonsai for the last time this year. These tours will start at 11.00 am and 2.00 pm. Those wanting to take part should gather at the flamingo area, where a guide will meet the group. Participation in these tours is included in the zoo’s admission fee. In April, the zoo extends its hours to be open from 9 am to 7 pm, with admission prices set at 180 CZK for adults and 120 CZK for concessions.
