Explore the Universe and Celebrate Observatory and Planetarium Day

Observatory and Planetarium Day is going to be celebrated for the eighth time in the year 2026. This event is currently organized by the Czech Astronomical Society; previously, it was handled by the Association of Observatories and Planetariums. The main focus for this year will be the Milky Way galaxy. Back in 1926, Edwin Hubble published an influential article in which he categorized galaxies based on their shapes as either elliptical or spiral. This year, around thirty observatories and planetariums are participating in the program.
So, what can we expect in the sky on 27 March 2026? According to astrologers, we can anticipate seeing the Moon after its first quarter, which will be easily spotted with the naked eye, and the planet Jupiter is expected to be the brightest object in the sky. In many locations, the event will also include opportunities for daytime observation of the Sun. A variety of additional activities has been planned, and numerous observatories and planetariums are also equipped with weather stations, seismic monitoring tools, and air pollution detection systems.
