Czechia Pedals Forward: Vienna’s Argus Bike Festival Highlights Rising Cycling Enthusiasm in Czech Regions

Festival That Combines Cycling and Travel
Every year, the Argus Bike Festival brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including tourist centers, cycling equipment manufacturers, and active tourism service providers. Visitors get the chance to explore the latest trends in cycling, try out new bicycles and e-bikes, and gather ideas for their next holiday. This year’s focus was on long-distance cycling routes, cross-border connections, and enhancing infrastructure for recreational and sports cycling.

Czechia: An Ideal Destination for Active Holidays
Czechia showcased itself at the festival through the CzechTourism agency, in collaboration with the Living Region (Karlovy Vary Region), South Bohemia Tourism Centre, and South Moravia Tourism Centre. Together, they highlighted Czechia as a prime destination for active vacations, particularly emphasizing its extensive network of marked cycling routes and its easy accessibility from Austria along with other tourist attractions such as gastronomy, spas, and cultural heritage.

“Austrian visitors have long sought easily accessible border regions and quality long-distance routes connected to the international network. Some of the most popular routes are the Labská cesta and the international EuroVelo 9, which blend active movement with urban and nature exploration. This year, we also introduced the Mapy.com map portal to the Austrian market,” summarizes Markéta Valenta, Director of the CzechTourism Foreign Representation in Austria.

Key Marketing Activity in Austria
Participation in the Argus Bike Festival is a vital marketing initiative for CzechTourism in Austria. This neighboring country has consistently been one of the most significant sources of inbound tourism to Czechia. Furthermore, cycling represents a sector with great potential—encouraging longer stays, attracting interest in various regions, and motivating repeat visits from Austrian tourists.

Trends: Sustainability, Experiences, and New Locations
The Czech regions’ presentations also reflected current tourism trends, where visitors increasingly seek affordable holidays, authentic experiences, and sustainable transportation methods.

Besides well-known routes, Czech representatives introduced lesser-known spots featuring quality infrastructure and services for cyclists, which hold promise for further enriching the country’s active holiday offerings.

Thus, the Argus Bike Festival reaffirmed its importance as a key platform for showcasing destinations and exchanging experiences in cycling and active tourism in 2026.
