Embark on an Adventure in the Šluknov Region – Explore New Trails and an Inviting Viewing Tower in Northern Bohemia

tripThe northernmost part of the Czech Republic, known as the Šluknov Hook, is an area that is best explored on foot. This region features a landscape filled with beautiful forests, lush meadows, historical monuments, and charming half-timbered houses, providing a tranquil environment with a genuine atmosphere away from busy tourist spots.

The Šluknov region is perfect for long hikes. You can find trails that weave through the countryside, connecting different villages and sites that are worth visiting, such as the route from Varnsdorf passing through Filipov, Lipová, or Tomášov, all the way to the Brtníky area. This trail, which is about 90 kilometers long, can be divided into several stages that match your fitness level. The landscape is diverse, shifting between forest paths, open meadows, and less-traveled roads.

The Šluknov Trails – 63 kilometres of routes around the town

Getting to know this region has now become much simpler thanks to the newly established Šluknov Trails around Šluknov. In 2025, a network of 63 kilometers of marked local hiking paths was developed, linking the town to its scenic surroundings and providing various viewpoints on the Šluknov area. These trails are suitable for not only hiking but also Nordic walking, running, and mountain biking.

The individual trails are generally circular and begin and finish in different parts of the town, offering flexibility to customize your hike based on how long or challenging you want it to be. Each path has its own theme and highlights different features of the region – including its historical buildings, past mining sites, deserted villages, and great lookout points.

There are five designated routes available: Architecture Trail (4.7 km), Quarry Trail (8.6 km), Fukov Trail (13.5 km), Grand Scenic Circuit (24.9 km), and Sacred Monuments Trail (11 km). The trails are well marked with distinctive color symbols and are equipped with tourist amenities like information boards, shelters, benches, and panoramic panels at scenic viewpoints.

For views of Jitrovník

Soon, the stunning views of the Šluknov region will be complemented by a new feature. A viewing tower is currently being constructed on Jitrovník hill in the Království district, which will continue from the historic viewpoint that dates back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. This new 31-meter-tall structure made of steel and wood will, once completed, hold the title of the northernmost observation tower in the Czech Republic. Visitors will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the Šluknov Hook landscape and the surrounding hills that frame the northernmost town in the Czech Republic. The grand opening is set for September 26, 2026.

The Šluknov region thus presents a perfect blend for those looking for tranquility, natural beauty, and captivating stories—whether you choose to embark on a quick stroll or an extended trek through the region.
