Don’t Miss Out on Nature’s Treasures: The Butterfly Exhibition at Fata Morgana Conservatory is Almost Over – Activities You Can’t Skip!

This year, over 5,000 chrysalises from tropical butterflies have slowly made their way to Prague from a farm located in Stratford-upon-Avon. Visitors will have the chance to see the stunning large blue Morpho butterflies, the see-through Greta oto, the graceful Idea leuconoe—often called the paper dragon—and the gigantic Attacus atlas, which is among the largest butterflies in the world. Additionally, there are Caligo butterflies known for their ‘owl’s eyes’ on their wings and bright, colorful swallowtails.
This exciting event in the Fata Morgana greenhouse is enhanced by an interactive exhibition called The Secrets of Butterfly Life. It provides a fresh and engaging look at the amazing world of butterflies. Here, guests can try out how a butterfly’s proboscis works, closely observe the details of the wings and the compound eye using a microscope, and learn about butterfly development from their unique viewpoint.
The exhibition further features a panel display focusing on endangered butterfly species found in the Czech countryside and the ‘Butterfly Half-Hour’ project, which invites visitors to join in by watching and counting daytime butterflies themselves.
For families enjoying a day out, there is a quiz trail, and on weekends, guided tours and art workshops are available. The outdoor section of the botanical garden is also a lovely place to visit, currently showcasing blooming tulips, peonies, lilacs, azaleas, and rhododendrons. To finish off a pleasant walk, you can stop by St. Clare’s Wine Shop, where wines from the new 2025 vintage are available.
You can buy tickets at the Botanical Garden’s ticket offices or through the online shop. The Fata Morgana Conservatory is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM (the last entry is at 6:30 PM). The Botanical Garden suggests that visitors come during weekdays around midday and early afternoon, as this is when the greenhouse tends to be the least busy.
