Discover the Enchanting Night of Churches in Prague: Explore St. Vitus Cathedral, Týn Church, and More

On the evening of 29 May 2026, numerous churches, chapels, and places of worship throughout the Czech Republic will open their doors to everyone for the eighteenth time. This event, known as the Night of Churches, has become a significant part of the European cultural landscape, and this year it will focus on the theme of Courage.

Visitors can expect a diverse array of activities ranging from family treasure hunts in various churches and cemeteries to pavement art and peaceful moments of meditation. In addition to these engaging activities, there will be an encouragement to find personal strength: to discover the courage to seek silence in our noisy lives or to embrace the unconventional bravery of simply taking a moment to relax in peace.

Highlights of the Night of Churches in Prague 2026

The extensive program will traditionally occur at the St. Vitus, Wenceslas, and Adalbert Cathedral located in Prague Castle, open from 17:30 to 21:30. The activities will include a Holy Mass, organ performances, and a discussion about the church’s history.

St Ludmila’s Church at Náměstí Míru will welcome visitors from 4.30 pm to 11.00 pm and will feature various musical acts. The Basilica of St Peter and St Paul at Vyšehrad will host a mass, kids’ workshops, and a guided tour of its organ.

This Friday, the Chapel of the Virgin Mary at the Old Town Hall will exceptionally open its doors from 6 pm to 10 pm. During this time, guests will have a unique chance to see the inner workings of the Old Town Astronomical Clock, a captivating blend of medieval technology and a spiritual setting.

This year, new participants are included in Prague 5, in Radlice, where the Unity of the Brethren congregation will offer guided tours every hour from 4 pm to 8 pm; and in Prague 8, in Kobylisy, the KS Praha Sever congregation will feature a talk about Georgia, a concert by the band (Ch)rámus, and stories about various churches.

Head over to the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren in Jarov at 7.30 pm for a lecture about the Green Hills of Africa, showcasing stunning photographs of the wildlife and plants from South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. You can also support the fair-trade shop ‘Obchůdek Jednoho světa’ by making a purchase. The Bethel Church in Strašnice will host a concert performed by the group REJBELE starting at 7 pm, featuring klezmer and Yiddish music along with Armenian, Romani, and Balkan songs. St Wenceslas Chapel in Suchdol is preparing a program centered on the themes of restoration and recycling.

Night of Churches in Prague: Activities for Kids and Everyone Else

St Prokop’s Church in Braník invites you to join from 4 pm for outdoor fun for children, quizzes, and a workshop where young and old can collaborate with Braník’s Magnolia to create a small keepsake of their visit to the church, along with an exhibition of the Cubist Stations of the Cross.

The Chapel of the Holy Family in Vinohrady welcomes you from 5.30 pm to participate in a Chinese ink painting workshop. This event is perfect for beginners and children, with all necessary materials provided.

If you’re a fan of Lego, visit the Brethren Church in Chodov, where everyone will join in building together starting at 5 pm.
