Loštice Welcomes You to the ‘Quest for Loštice Tvarůžky’ and Festivities Celebrating 150 Years of Production

At the end of May in Loštice, there will be a focus on tourism, the beautiful Haná countryside, and A.W. Olomouc Tvarůžky. This year, the traditional Loštice Tvarůžky Trail will be enhanced by events to celebrate 150 years of the creation of the only cheese truly from Czech lands, a cheese that has historical ties to Loštice for many generations.
Olomouc Tvarůžky are celebrating 150 years since production started at A.W. spol. s r. o. in Loštice. The history of this well-known cheese has been traced back in the Haná region since the late 15th and early 16th centuries, and in 2010, Olomouc Tvarůžky were recognized as having a Protected Geographical Indication by the European Union.
A journey in search of Loštice tvarůžky, an open day, and a harvest festival
On Saturday 30 May 2026, the 48th event titled Journey in Search of Loštice Tvarůžky will invite both walkers and cyclists to explore the scenic town related to the making of this uniquely Czech cheese. Participants can choose from different route lengths and will be greeted with a traditional Tvarůžky snack at the finish line.
The Journey in Search of Loštice Tvarůžky is one of those fantastic events that effortlessly blend physical activity, an adventure in nature, and local customs. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, traverse the gorgeous Haná countryside, and conclude the day in Loštice—a place famed for its Olomouc Tvarůžky for centuries.
The ‘Journey in Search of Loštice Tvarůžky’ event will kick off on Saturday 30 May, from 7 am to 10 am. Those participating will depart from the Scout hut located in the Borový les area, while cyclists will start from the local lido. Registration will also be available on Friday 29 May from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Scout hut. The finish line will stay open until 5 pm, and the event will proceed regardless of the weather conditions.
The Open Day at the Olomouc Tvarůžky Museum in Loštice will also celebrate an important milestone. On 27 June 2026, this event will delve into the history of Tvarůžky production and the intriguing story of Alois Wessels, the namesake of the family business A.W. The end of this special anniversary year will symbolically return to Loštice, where Tvarůžky have been crafted for 150 years. The celebrations will reach their peak in September 2026 during the Loštice Harvest Festival.
The Olomouc Tvarůžky Museum
A travel card featuring stamps from various checkpoints will also act as an admission ticket to the Olomouc Tvarůžky Museum. The museum offers an interactive exhibition that walks visitors through the timeline of Tvarůžky production, from its earliest days to the modern era, showcasing period photos, original machinery, a retro cinema, and even a shop for visitors to explore.
Currently, the long-standing tradition of Tvarůžky production in Loštice is upheld by A.W. spol. s r. o., which employs around 180 individuals and produces approximately 2,200 tonnes of Tvarůžky in over thirty different varieties. A.W. Olomouc Tvarůžky are created using low-fat sour curd, without rennet, artificial colors, or flavorings, and due to their reduced fat content, they stand out as one of the special traditional foods in Czech cuisine.
