Hop aboard a Unique Steam Train Journey on the Kolešovka Line this Holiday – Fun Ideas to Ditch the Dullness!

KolešovkaDo you recall the hop-picking work parties? Hand-picking hops into baskets belongs to the past, just like the era of traditional steam trains. Nevertheless, the local railway on the Krupá–Kolešovice route takes you on a trip down memory lane as it travels through a variety of hop fields. This train also makes its way through the village of Kněževes, which used to serve as a central hub for thousands of hop-pickers. In this village, you’ll also discover an exhibition featuring historic railway vehicles.

The Kolešovka line, measuring about 12 km, has been operational since 1883. It was mainly used for transporting goods like sugar beets, coal, and hops. During the hop harvest season, special trains consisting of around 15 large passenger carriages pulled by two steam locomotives carried thousands of hop-pickers to the primary centers of hop cultivation—Kněževes and Kolešovice.
