A Philatelic Treasure Has Arrived in Prague
The world’s most prized postage stamp has made its way to Prague! The exhibition titled Biennale 2026 – Treasures of World Philately is taking place at the Municipal House and will continue until 6 September 2026. This remarkable event features around 60 exquisite stamps, covers, and various philatelic marvels from premier private collections scattered across Europe.
British Guiana One-Cent Magenta
The main highlight of the exhibition is the famed British Guiana One-Cent Magenta. It is often hailed as the world’s most valuable postage stamp and stands out as one of the rarest collectibles in the philatelic community. Attendees will also have the opportunity to admire the legendary Inverted Jenny and other exceptional pieces that are seldom displayed for the public’s viewing.
The Record-Breaker:
This one-of-a-kind stamp, issued in 1856, is estimated to be worth more than CZK 250 million (which is about €10 million), making it the most expensive stamp to ever be exhibited in the Czech Republic. When it was auctioned for US$9.5 million in 2014, Sotheby’s hailed it as the most valuable object based on its weight and size on the planet.
