Český Šternberk

Český Šternberk TrainThe Český Šternberk castle is situated high over the Sázava river, upon a rocky ridge, and is supposedly completely impregnable. This castle was started during the mid-thirteenth century by a Šternberk family member, one of the most influential dynasties of the realm. This has been hugely renovated through time and, in its’ current state, is essentially a Baroque monument. During communist rule, the Šternberks were permitted to remain as curators. These days, the reconstructed stronghold is well worth visiting for its’ amazing site and intriguing, often strangely designed interiors. It is packed with fittings and furnishings in styles that range from Empire to Renaissance, along with hunting trophies, portraits, chandeliers & artefacts from the 30 Years War, when this castle managed to survive two sieges.

The castle is open: June to August, Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 18:00, May, September 15,  Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00, April, October, Saturday and Sunday 09:00 to 17:00; An admission charge is applicable.
